As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
Author Guidelines
Author guidelines ensure the consistency and quality of published content in medical journals. The following information should be included:
1) Submission Guidelines: Authors must submit their manuscripts via an online submission system. All submissions should include a cover letter, abstract, key words, tables, figures and references. Manuscripts must be written in English and use American spelling conventions.
2) Article Types: The journal publishes original research, review articles and case studies. Authors should indicate the type of article they are submitting in their cover letter.
3) Copyright: Upon acceptance, authors must sign an exclusive license agreement which grants the journal non-exclusive reproduction rights to the article text and images.
4) Ethics: All authors must confirm that their research adheres to the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki and has been approved by an institutional review board or ethics committee.
5) Disclosure: Authors are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest in their cover letter. This includes financial relationships, consultant arrangements and patent ownership.
6) Authorship: Authors must list all contributors and the corresponding author must certify that all authors have contributed equally to the paper and that they are aware of its content.
7) Peer Review Process: The journal uses a double-blind peer review process. After submission, each manuscript will be reviewed by at least two independent experts who will decide whether it should be accepted or rejected.
8) Reprints: Authors may purchase a limited number of reprints for personal use or distribution.
9) Formatting: Manuscripts must follow the journal’s style guidelines, which can be found on the journal website.
10) Editing: The journal reserves the right to make editorial changes to manuscripts prior to publication.

For instance, occasionally, CMJ may co-publish articles jointly with other publishers, and different licensing conditions may then apply. In all such cases, however, access to these articles is free from fees or any other access restrictions.
